I think its supposed to be at 6 months, as this is when the dangers of cot death are reduced, but if your LO is too big for the moses basket, maybe you could put him in his cot, but make sure that it is in your room, so you can still check him easily & hear for any breathing difficulties etc.
My DD is 6 months but only weighs 13 lb 7 & is still in her moses basket, but I now put her moses basket in her cot, so she is getting used to being in the cot.
If you dont have the space for that, (& have the money to) it would probably be better to buy a bigger moses basket or crib.

Ollie went into a cot at 11 weeks because he was in a swinging crib and when he slept he had an arm out of the bars on either side.

A good tip is to put the moses basket inside the cot for the first week, so that baby gets used to a new view while still in similar surroundings.

Max went into his cot at 8 weeks as e was touching either end of his moses basket. He was sitting up by 6 months so it would have been far too dangerous to keep him in his basket til then!

Our son went into his cot at 2 weeks. I stayed in his room for about two weeks and then left him to it. While I recognise that this isn't for everyone, I don't really think it reduces the risk of cot death to keep the baby in the parent's room.

We put Alex in his cot the day we came back from hospital with the cot being in our room...and now he loves falling asleep on his own( with me in the room) in his cot:D. I'd say if his moses basket is getting to tight, it is no longer comfy for him and will probably start to disturb his sleep, if he is able to fall asleep in it in the first place. However, if your son's cot is in another room do not worry, just use a monitor and you will be able to hear him perfectly fine...
Someone on here suggested using the moses basket placed in his cot for the first few days so he can get used to the new surroundings, should he not like his cot in the beginning that is;)
In none of the books I have read on the subject is there a mention that moses basket is safer than cot when it comes to the risk of cot death[smilie=017.gif]
However, as you probably already know, always use the feet to foot position when you put him in the cot, so he does not wriggle under the covers..Better even, how about a sleeping bag? I delayed using one and now I wish I had started using it sooner..
Good luck with whatever you decide to do;)

There's no reason not not put them in a cot from newborn. There's no need for a moses basket at all - and the poster who mentioned keeping them in a moses basket until 6mths from a cot death perspective is wrong. The 6mths recommendation is for keeping them in the parents' room.

Thanks for all ur advice he will be sleeping in our room anyway cos its the only place that we have space!!
Think we will put his moses basket in the cot for a few days as suggested and we have plenty of gro bags so will then put him in one of thm in his cot.

bies can go in a cot from birth, as long as they are put with their feet at the bottom.

It is recommended to stay in parents room till 6 months though for safety.
