Hello,

Looking for some positivity and/or similar experiences.

Based on LMP (01/12/2023) I should be 8 weeks 3 days however, I went for an early private scan on 20/01/2024 as I thought I would have been 7 weeks and 1 day. The sonographer said should could see a yolk sac and a 4mm fetal pole however no heartbeat. She said I was 6 weeks and 1 day. Due to seeing no HB she referred me to the EPU however this was in 9 days.

Today I went for the scan and the sonographer said there is no HB however there has been an increase in size, the fetal pole measuring 5.6mm. Due to the increase in size, they cannot rule out miscarriage just yet. I am booked in for another scan next week to see viability. On the report they have put I am 6 weeks 1 day which is very confusing.

Has anyone experienced this? I had a missed miscarriage at 9 weeks in September 2023 after seeing a HB. My nerves at shot at. I wanted some form of clarity today but I didn’t get this. I don’t understand how there has been growth if there is no HB :(

Hi, I'm Sarah, one of the Netmums midwives. I can understand how worrying, and confusing this must be for you. But please be reassured that the Early Pregnancy Team at your local hospital will look after you well and monitor you closely. It can be hard to date an early pregnancy accurately but I want to wish you good luck for your next scan. I'm sure you'll find more support and good advice from other mums and parents within the Netmums community too.

Best wishes

Midwife Sarah
