If your kid is after a cunning well-known and well-loved Roald Dahl character to dress up for World Book Day 2023, look no further than Fantastic Mr Fox!
For those of you not familiar with the story, three farmers get fed up of Mr Fox stealing their livestock to feed his family, so they dig into the hill where he lives, forcing the fox family and many other burrowing creature to dig and burrow further underground.
The animals begin to starve as the three farmers stake out the burrows waiting for Mr Fox to emerge so they can kill him! All the animals are terrified and hungry ... until Mr Fox comes up with a fantastic plan to dig underground into the farmers' storehouse to take all the food they need, leaving the farmers waiting forever for them to emerge out of starvation – but they never will, of course!

You'll need:
- cardboard
- orange, white and black paint
- elastic
- spotted scarf
- dark trousers
- smart jacket
- white t-shirt
- waistcoat or v-necked jumper
4 easy steps
1. To make the mask, cut a fox shape with ears from a piece of cardboard. Measure the location of your child’s eyes (carefully!) and cut out holes for the eyes. Get this right and make sure it fits before you paint.
2. Paint a white muzzle, black whiskers and details, and orange upper face, following the design on the picture above.
3. Attach with elastic or a strip of orange card, stapled or glued in place.
4. Complete the outfit with dark trousers, white t-shirt, waistcoat or v-necked jumper, smart jacket and spotted scarf.
