Mum of two Joanna Lovell tested this nifty little machine and says its been a game-changer in her household

This is a product I genuinely didn't know I needed. A robot vacuum had previously seemed out of budget – an expense I didn't need – and wasn't really on my radar.

I've got a cordless cleaner, which I find extremely handy, and – with three kids and a cat in the household – it's something I'd say I use pretty much every day. Hung up in my utility room, it's always at hand and does a good job, or so I thought.

Thanks to the Ultenic robot cleaner being reduced on Amazon from £269.99 to £159.99 – a saving of 41% – the robot vacuum entered our household and everything's changed.

What I thought were clean floors were actually dirty. I was both disgusted and delighted in equal parts with how much the robot sucked up!

Cleans and mops

I didn't even think my floors needed a clean when the robot arrived, but to test it, I set it off to do its thing and was genuinely disgusted how much fluff and dirt it collected.

It really showed me how much dirt my current cordless (top brand) model wasn't sucking up, despite the floors 'looking clean.'

But the game-changer with this little thing of beauty is the fact that it also mops your floors – and you can even pre-set it to clean while you sleep.

Who wouldn't want to wake up to shiny clean floors?

The vacuum even has its own app, so you can monitor real-time cleaning status, battery levels, customise your cleaning options and set personalised cleaning schedules. You can also control the robot via your Alexa.

'Effortlessly glides from carpet to wooden floors'

I've got friends who tell horror stories about their robot sucking up wires and getting stuck – not this one. We've got plenty of wires that haven't been tampered with, and it effortlessly glides from rug to wooden floor.

My 13-year-old son absolutely loves it. He's taken control of the app, even installing it on his own phone. So now, not only have I got a robot who does my cleaning, but I've got my son to set it up for me and send it on its way. My work here is literally done.

Needless to say he didn't ever touch the vacuum before we got the robot, he probably wouldn't even be able to tell you where I keep it, let alone think to use it. However the robot is his new best friend, he's even named it Rover! It really is like a part of our family now!

And it's not just us who loves this little bundle of cleanliness. It's got great reviews on Amazon.

'Pretty faultless'

One shopper, who has named hers 'Sid' said: 'The vacuum part is pretty faultless, Sid's suction is impressive, matching a traditional vacuum when left to it.

'The dustbox is easy to empty and clean, first few times you use it empty it after every use, Sid gets into places most vacuums don't get to like under sofas, cupboards, TV units etc and I couldn't believe how much he found under there.

'But there are some places Sid can't get to. Places smaller than his width and stairs is pretty much his limits, ideally using Sid most of the week and using a traditional vacuum once or twice a week would give the best results.'

Another shopper said having the robot has encouraged her to tidy away more often.

'Very impressed'

She said: 'I've only been using this machine for a month or so but very impressed. Cleans thoroughly, rugs and hard floors, under furniture and into the corners.

'The suction is powerful and the roller brush is a great tool, picks up everything from rugs and hard floors alike.

'Quite shameful really, as the bucket is full of waste every time I use it when I thought the floors were clean.

'Has encouraged me to tidy things away more too, so that nothing gets caught up. I also haven't used the Alexa feature as the app and the remote are more than adequate for controlling the machine.'

Another had time to put her feet up and write the review while the robot cleaned her house.

'Sitting right now while the robot cleans up'

She said: 'With border collie and child to entertain, hovering was a daily chore which took up a lot of time and sometimes needed to be done more than once a day.
'I’m sitting right now drinking tea while this hover cleans up the dog hair from yesterday and I watch TV!!

'It’s fair to say this will never be a full replacement for doing it yourself with a big vaccuum cleaner, but it does a brilliant job for what it is and has tackled most dog hair with ease even on carpet, so I can put this on in one room and make a start of the next one.

'Sometimes it does struggle to go back to the base but it’s really not the end of the world to lift it and set it back on the charger once in a while and usually it’s when the base isn’t switched on at the wall.'

Any downsides?

None from me – the cat – on the other hand isn't keen!
