Sleeping Beauty costume for World Book Day

A simple pink sundress can be transformed into a gown worthy of Princess Aurora in no time, just in time to make a Sleeping Beauty costume for World Book Day!

If your little princess is getting excited about World Book Day (Thursday, March 2 this year) and wants to dress up, then you've come to the right place! This adorable Sleeping Beauty costume is perfect for World Book Day, and it's also pretty easy to put together.

Princess Aurora, also known as Briar Rose, is one of the original three Disney Princesses, but has been around as a character for a lot longer than you might think! She was first written about in the 16th Century (though she was originally called Zellandine), so she definitely counts as being from a book!

Just follow the three easy steps below, and you'll have your very own Sleeping Beauty this World Book day.

You'll need:

  • Pink sundress
  • A metre of pale pink material
  • White t-shirt
  • A metre of white material
  • Princess crown or tiara
  • Safety pins

Step 1

To make the overskirt, wrap the pale pink material around the dress, leaving a gap at the front. Sew or safety pin into place.

Step 2

Fold the white material in half and wrap it around the overskirt (with the open edges at the top). Sew or safety pin the top edge around the waist.

Step 3

Your child can wear the white t-shirt under the dress, and complete the look with a princess crown or tiara.
