There's a big difference between Hydration and Energy when it comes to the popular Prime drinks. We explain the difference and which ones aren't safe for kids

What is Prime drink?

Prime is the brand name for a line of drinks created in early 2022 by Logan Paul, an American social media influencer and wrestler, and KSI, the UK influencer and CEO of @misfitsboxing, along with Congo Brands, which supplies and distributes it. The drink is available in the UK and the US.

However there are two kinds of Prime drink ... and one is a kind of drink that health experts warn parents about.

What's the difference between Prime Hydration and Prime Energy?

Discover the 2 kinds of Prime drink and what makes them different.

Prime Hydration – This drink features coconut water, minerals and vitamins and is marketed as an energy drink. It doesn't contain caffeine or sugar. It uses artificial sweeteners.

Prime Energy – This Prime drink promises customers increased energy and performance. It contains 200mg of caffeine, along with sugar and carbonation.

A notice on the official Prime site says: PRIME Energy is not recommended for children under the age of 18, women who are pregnant or nursing or individuals who are sensitive to caffeine.

US Senator calls on regulation for Prime

The Senator Majority Leader in the US has even called on the Food and Drug Administration to investigate Prime because of concerns about the amount of caffeine in it and the way its marketing appeals to children. On 9 July 2023 at a press conference in New York City, US Senator Chuck Schumer issued a 'public warning to parents.'

Holding up a picture of another popular energy drink, Schumer said, 'The problem here is that the product has so much caffeine in it that it puts Red Bull to shame.'

He raised concerns that the marketing of the 2 drinks is similar, targeting younger consumers and leading some parents to buy Prime Energy for their children thinking it is Prime Hydration.
