Are you on the hunt for freebies, cheap days out with the kids and money off your weekly shop? Then you’ll love our new columnist Jordon Cox, aka Britain’s Coupon Kid

A regular face on TV shows such as This Morning and Steph’s Packed Lunch, former Money Saving Expert journalist Jordon has one mission: to help us all spend less.

We’ve teamed up with Jordon, 26, for an all-new weekly column, launching this Thursday (15 February).

Jordon, who once did a £600 supermarket shop for just 4p thanks to his couponing skills, will be sharing his top deals of the week for families. This will include everything from the must-use apps that earn you cash to the latest vouchers and codes for free food, drinks and travel.

We'll be sharing his weekly advice on our website, and on our socials. So stay tuned for Jordon's tips every Thursday and see how much YOU can save!

He says, ‘I really want to make people aware of all the different apps, websites and hacks out there that can save you money. Even if it's £10 a week, that's £520 a year – those small savings really add up.

‘If you’re a family and worrying about price increases everywhere, getting those costs down in any way can absolutely transform your finances month to month.’

And Jordon, who lives in Hampshire with his partner Ollie, 27, should know. He started looking for ways to save money when he was just 15 after his parents split up.

‘I couldn’t believe how much people saved’

He says, ‘I started couponing out of necessity basically because my parents split when I was 15, and my dad was the main breadwinner. We were looking for ways to cut back and save money and I happened to see a TV show called Extreme Couponing.

‘I couldn’t believe the amount of money people saved just by using coupons. I thought it was the best thing I'd ever seen in my life! So I started Googling coupons and in my first week saved us £5 on our weekly shop.

‘The next week I found enough coupons to save us a tenner, then it went up to £20 off our bill. It was Christmas not too long after that and I managed to get a whole festive dinner, including the turkey and the trimmings, for 10p using loads of coupons.

‘And that was it – I was hooked and determined to never pay full price again. My mum was pretty happy too!’

Jordon admits he hadn’t intended to become a coupon expert. ‘Before then, I’d had absolutely no interest in money or any finance. I was a typical teen: if I had pocket money I’d go out and spend it on sweets and games.

‘But when I started, it became an obsession. I was at school studying for my GCSEs and at lunchtimes, I’d use the school computers to search for money-off vouchers and deals. Everyone thought I was a complete nerd.’

‘Working with Martin Lewis was really cool’

Within months he’d saved enough coupons for his biggest ever haul…

‘When I was 16 I got a £600 Tesco shop for 4p. I had 500 coupons and it took two hours at checkout.

‘After that, I started a Facebook page teaching people how to save money with coupons as well. I found I was really good at it, and it just grew from there.’

As soon as his GCSEs were done, Jordon started couponing full time. When he was 18, he joined Martin Lewis’ Money Saving Expert website.

‘Working with Martin was really cool, I looked up to him as a kid when I first started couponing. He’s such a lovely guy, a genuinely kind-hearted human. He was always there for advice.’

‘It’s so easy to get coupons and money off’

Jordon left Money Saving Expert in 2020 to set up his own business, which included a regular stint on Steph’s Packed Lunch. He also appears on This Morning sharing top deals … and is now Netmums’ couponing guru!

Wondering how you can get started saving money each week? Jordon says:

‘There are so many coupon and cashback apps to have downloaded on your phone. But my top tip for high-value coupons is to contact brands directly. They love consumer feedback. Say, “Hey, I love your product. Can you send me some coupons?”.

‘Or put a little bit more effort into it like sending them a poem or a song or something like that. And they’ll send you freebies in return. A four-line poem got me £20 worth of coupons just a few months ago, and it only took five minutes!’

Where to find Jordon’s weekly tips

He adds, ‘When I started couponing there was a stigma around it, and it was seen as a bit of a shameful thing to do.

‘Now, we’re all looking for ways to save money and it’s a badge of pride to pay less for things. I want to help you do that … so stay tuned for my Netmums top tips!’

Each week Jordon will be sharing the top deals and offers for families on our website, along with sharing video on our socials.
